Canada Post had a good run: government subsidies, virtual monopoly until the digital / UPS age, secure, well-paid jobs and benefits. Now its main service is delivering junk mail. Did management reconsider its business model? No! They raised the cost of a stamp to $l.00 (+35%)! Wow, give them a Nobel Prize for innovation!
The truth is that there are areas of the postal service that can be salvaged and restructured in a profitable way. But methinks bureaucrats and in the box thinkers don't have the creative juices to make it work. Release the Post Office into the private sector, otherwise the whole monopoly will end up with carrier pigeons, packet ships and the pony express.
