B.C. Ferries in Fairyland

B.C. Ferries is a private company wholly owned by the B.C. government. Like any Board of Directors, the ferries board is responsible for broad policy and overseeing senior management, including their salaries. So why did the board roll controversial bonuses into senior salaries? Bonuses for what? B.C. Ferries is a monopoly-there is no competition. The head honcho CEO, Mike Corrigan makes over half a million dollars a year. B.C. Ferries cuts costs by cutting service and raising fares. Why not cut senior management salaries to bring them in line with similar ferry fleets like Washington state? That is the role of the Board of Directors. And who controls the Board? The owner- the B.C. government. Why doesn't the government replace the Board with members who will run the corporation in a responsible manner? Don't know, but it's a good question. Come on Premier Clark do the right thing- kick out the rascals.
